Career in Movies
While assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make the film Black, he spotted the fire and ambition of Sonam and offered her to play the lead role in his forthcoming venture Saanwariya opposite Rishi Kapoor’s son Rnabir Kapoor, her childhood friend. She was overweight that time, nearly 90 kgs in weight, but she took up this opportunity as a challenge and worked hard to reduce her weight under the expert supervision of her mother and Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. Eventually she shed off 30 kilos of extra weight to be fit for the movie.
The movie released on later half of the year 2007, and was a huge hit at box office. Even though both of them (Sonam and Ranbir) are newcomer as an actor and actress, they were successful stamping their names in the industry and gathered praises from both critics and viewers.
